Our Mission

Basic Needs

Prioritize community resources to ensure that all children and young people are secure in basic needs and are ready to learn.

Year-Round Learning

Provide financial support that will enable all of Somerville's children and young people to benefit from enhanced learning experiences that will put them on a path to success.

How have we done this?

Applied Learning

Ensure high school students have the opportunity to access internships, summer jobs, coops, and project-based applied learning opportunities.

Innovations in Education

SEF continued with the Innovations in Education program launched in 2020 and had grant requests totaling $37,000. Funds for this effort come from the Star Awards, an initiative enabling students and parents to recognize and appreciate Somerville Public School teachers. Say thank you to a teacher here.

5.

Teen Centers & Alumni Network

SEF recognizes the need for a Teen Center and Student Alumni network. The City of Somerville created three temporary teen centers over the summer, but we are working to develop a more permanent solution. We are also working on an SPS alumni platform that will be run by SPS Alumni for SPS Alumni.
