Recent Initiatives

Focusing on Basic NeedsSEF partnered with Somerville Public Schools, Somerville Food Security Coalition, and Stock Pot Malden to provide hot meals for up to 200 families via the No Kid Hungry program. Additionally, SEF participated in a Coat Drive and collected coats for schools in the Somerville area.

The Somerville Education Foundation (SEF) had several accomplishments from July 2022 to December 2022, ranging from successful fundraising to organizing youth-targeted efforts.

Innovations in Education
SEF continued with the Innovations in Education program launched in 2020 and had grant requests totaling $37,000. Funds for this effort come from the Star Awards, an initiative enabling students and parents to recognize and appreciate Somerville Public School teachers. Say thank you to a teacher here.

Teen Centers & Alumni NetworkSEF recognizes the need for a Teen Center and Student Alumni network. The City of Somerville created three temporary teen centers over the summer, but we are working to develop a more permanent solution. We are also working on an SPS alumni platform that will be run by SPS Alumni for SPS Alumni.
