Year-Round Learning

Summer Learning campaign

Learning, like eating, is something kids need to do year round.
Some kids have rich and diverse opportunities to explore fun and learning throughout the summer.  Others do not.

Summer learning loss.

Kids in poverty often close the achievement gap during the school year and fall behind over the summer.

Summer should be a time of joy and exploration.
While the opportunity to catch up academically is critical, of equal importance is the opportunity for kids to play outdoors, explore, and learn about nature.

We can do something about it.

The Somerville Education Foundation, in partnership with the City of Somerville, Somerville Public Schools, and Chamber of Commerce is making a commitment to ensure all Somerville young people have access to affordable, quality summer programming.  Funds raised this year will go to expand summer programming.

Thanks to many generous commitments from various sponsors, SEF has been able to commit to funding the following services for the summer of 2019:

  • $7,065 for 40 3-week scholarships at the Center for Arts at the Armory
  • $6,500 for 10 summer camp scholarships through Parts and Crafts
  • $8,886 for 4 55-day scholarship slots through the Mystic Learning Center
  • $6000 for 20 summer camp scholarships through Somerville Media Center
